Faqs
Our eco escape is an off-grid, architecturally designed cabin. We use 100% solar power, rainwater tanks, curated products for the bathroom and kitchen and eco-friendly warming and cooling techniques. For a full list of amenities, please refer to the ‘Booking page’.
Please BYO food and drinks to indulge in while you unplug at Wilka. There's more info in the FAQ's and for a full list of amenities, visit the 'Our Eco Escapes' page.
Phone range yes, some providers will have more coverage than others. WiFi no. We’d rather you tap out so we encourage no devices during your stay. And of course in case of an emergency having reception is important.
There’s always plenty for your stay, although we’ve set up each site so you can come with minimal fuss and leave with maximum happiness. The powerpoints we’ve installed are ok to charge small things like your phone or laptop, but please leave large appliances at home. The BBQ runs off a gas bottle which is regularly checked.
We get it, life happens, so here’s how we tackle it. We charge 100% up front. If you can’t make it and need to cancel with 29 days prior, you can reschedule or we can provide you with a voucher. For cancellations within 10 days prior to arrival, we offer a 50% refund.
All refunds will incur a processing and administration fee of 2.5%, based on the total transaction amount. And re-bookings are subject to availability.
You have total privacy when staying at Wilka. We place our sites where there are no roads, no people, no nothing – just some white fluffy clouds – complete heaven. The car park is around 5m from the front door and can be accessed with a regular 2WD vehicle.
We love little ones but we’re not quite set-up for babies who are already at the crawling or walking stage. Newborns are very welcome, we’re thinking up to 6 months. And of course there’s wriggle-room on this one – pardon the pun. Email us if your baby is older yet not crawling etc.
The bonus of working with the clever gang at MGAO is they suggested double-glazed glass and windows with louvres to create cross ventilation through the hut. Combined with double insulation you have stable conditions – warm in winter and cool in summer.
We have an epic wood log fire from Nectre inside the Heathcote cabin, comes with kindling too.
For sure go exploring, just stick to within the boundaries of the block as the perimeter is fenced off. If you cross over into another paddock you’ve gone too far, please turn around and wander back to your accommodation.
Super fancy. Just before you hop in, make sure you don’t have any oils, soaps, or tanning oils on your skin. A quick shower to rinse off beforehand is always a good idea. The hot tub is set at 25 degrees and we replace the tub with fresh water after every stay, meaning no nasty chemicals are used, chlorine etc.
Funny combo? It’s because they’re both a zero, nada, no deal situation. Sorry! About the pets thing. We know the fur babies are part of the family. We’re just not set-up for the doggos, neither is the wildlife.
It’s so rad! Otherwise called an incineration toilet, all waste is burned at high temperatures, leaving only ash behind. The water-free toilets we use are great for the environment and a no-smell situation, unlike composting toilets.
Before
After
Everything you would take on a regular trip out to nature – your sunscreen, bug repellent, clothes for the sun and rain, protective boots or shoes, torch, food (we have a bar fridge and some condiments) – check out the ‘Amenities’ page to see what’s included.
Check-in is at 3pm (not earlier), check-out is 10am (on the dot, please). Coming early might sound like a good idea but our cleaners may still be working so please aim for 3pm or later. Please wash and put away the dishes and take your rubbish with you. Remember to lock the door, pop the key back in the box and close farm gate behind you so the cows don’t go on any adventures.
We send you the exact address upon booking your stay, along with some tips from Clayton (our Founder) on his fave places to eat and drink. Then 48 hours before you arrive, we send you an email containing the code for the key box. We're the only ones with a key too so you’re totally safe and secure while staying at a Wilka Eco Escape.
We encourage short showers as the property is serviced by a rain water tank. Good idea to not let the water run too much when you’re doing dishes. The spa is pre-filled (you just set the temperature).
This is the Aussie outback and the onus ultimately is on you when it comes to keeping safe. Rule of thum – the animals like their privacy just as much as you do and are happy to be left alone. In the dry season, beware of snakes. You’ll see cattle but they’re usually not bothered and will move awa, albeit slowly, if you go near them. As tempting as it might be, don’t feed them. You might see a rabbit or a kangaroo here and there in which case – good luck to you! That’s what we call a bonus.
The Heathcote region fire warning updates can be monitored via…. Also, given there are no trees in your immediate surroundings, you should safely be able to get down the access path to the main road. So please, if it’s safe to get in your car, drive away from the property immediately, leave the gates open and exit out the driveway.
If this happens, be a good sport and let us know by emailing hello@... Good for us and the next guests staying in the accommodation. Wilka Eco Escapes reserves the right to keep your bank details on file for 7 days post your stay. In the unlikely event something is broken or damaged, we will deduct the cost from your card.
Strictly no extra visitors. Thing is, our accommodation is set up for two people max (and your baby). We’d love you to tell your mates all about us and they can book too.
In between
Absolutely, send us an email via hello@wilka.com.au and let us know your preferred dates.
We have vouchers available in increments of $100. The voucher will be emailed to you digitally and needs to be used within 18 months.
That’s easy, it’s because it was designed by the legends at Matt Goodman Architecture Office. Check their work out here.
